House Calls @ Queen's Medical Center: HML's Onsite Consultation Service

The librarians from the Hawaii Medical Library offer free instruction and consultation services to the QMC physicians and employees.

The Hawaii Medical Library librarians will bring library instruction to your offices and labs on The Queen's Medical Center campus. They will provide you or your staff with customized instruction on finding information and using the extensive library resource tools. Each House Call is tailored to the requestor's individualized information needs.

If you have a computer classroom, we can teach a hands-on class at your site. We can also arrange for one-on-one or small group tutorials in your department.

House Calls Topic of the Month: Ebsco 2.0 for CINAHL Plus and More

CINAHL Plus and other EbscoHost databases will now have a new look and an improved interface. Several exciting new features have been added without drastically changing your searching experience.

  • A simpler basic search screen
  • SmartText searching
  • Easy access to search limits on the results list
  • Pop-up previews of articles on the results list

The HML librarians will be able to guide you through the changes, so either sign up for a scheduled class or contact us via phone at 547-4300 or e-mail us to schedule an appointment.

Other House Call topics may include the following:

  • Online database searching in PubMed, CINAHL Plus, and OVID databases
  • Electronic journals & books
  • Evidence-based medicine resources
  • Finding authoritative health materials for consumers
  • PDA applications in health sciences
  • Using the HML website effectively
  • Document delivery and interlibrary loan services

Consider requesting an individual "consultation" to brush up on your database search skills or to identify the information resources available to you before beginning a research project, evidence-based medicine review, or grant proposal.

Call (547-4300) or e-mail the Librarians to schedule an individual consultation or instructional session for yourself or a group. Sessions usually last one hour. You will be contacted to discuss and arrange your House Call.
