Dr. Kenneth M. Amlin was born on September 19, 1907 in Oakland, California, the son of Thomas Emory and Margaret Pearl (Miller) Amlin. He graduated from Compton High School in California. He received an A.B. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, 1931 and his medical degree from Washington University Medical School, St. Louis, in 1935. He interned at De Paul Hospital, St. Louis, 1935-36 and Lutheran Hospital, St. Louis, 1936-37. He came to Hawaii in 1937 and was a plantation physician on Kauai for six years at Koloa and Waimea Hospitals. He then moved to Honolulu and joined the Alsup Clinic before opening his office on Vineyard Street in 1953. He was also physician for the Hawaiian Village Hotel. Dr. Amlin left Hawaii and moved to Mountain View, California in 1959.
Dr. Amlin was a member of the American Medical Association, Hawaii Territorial Medical Association, Kauai County and Honolulu County Medical Societies, Honolulu Academy of General Practice, Honolulu Surgical Society and the Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club and Oahu Country Club. He enjoyed golfing and sailing and helped sail the yacht “Typee” in the 1955 Oahu-Kauai Yacht Race.
Dr. Amlin married Katherine Marie Gieseker of Lewiston, Idaho, on January 1,
1938 on Kauai. They were the parents of three children, Jean Carol, John and
Mary Lou. Dr. Amlin died on July 11, 1997; his last residence was listed as
San Mateo, California.
