EMORY HAMLIN ANDERSON


Dr. Emory H. Anderson was born in Richmond, Virginia, on October 21, 1906, the son of James Albert and Rebecca Anderson. He attended public schools in Richmond and the University of Virginia (1925-26), the University of Richmond (1926-29), and the Medical College of Virginia, where he received his medical degree in 1933. He was a physician at the Pine Breeze Sanatorium (tuberculosis), Chattanooga, Tennessee, from July-October 1933. From October 1933 to January 1935 he was an Instructor in Surgery, Medicine, Pathology and Pediatrics at the Medical College of Virginia. He was at the American Hospital, Paris, France, from 1935-36 and took a postgraduate course in Vienna. He was Assistant Resident in Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Virginia, from July 1936-July 1937. He was a Resident Surgeon at James Walker Hospital, Wilmington, North Carolina, during 1937-38, and an apprentice in surgery at A.C.L. Relief Department Hospital, Waycross, Georgia, from September 1938-January 1939.

In April 1939, Dr. Anderson became the physician for the Maui Pineapple Company. He practiced in Maui until 1948 when he moved to Glendale, California. He retired in the 1970's in Santa Barbara, California. During his college days he had been on the varsity swimming, football and track teams. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Hawaii (Territorial) Medical Association (vice president 1947-48), Maui Medical Society (president 1947-48), the Public Health Association, Phi Gamma Delta, and Phi Chi.

Dr. Anderson died on March 6, 1988.
