RANSOM JAMES ARTHUR

Dr. Ransom J. Arthur was born on December 5, 1925 in New York, N.Y., the son
of Mr. and Mrs. R. James Arthur of Los Angeles. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps
during World War II serving in the Pacific area. He received his undergraduate
degree from the University of California and his medical degree from Harvard
University Medical School in 1951. He interned at Massachusetts General Hospital,
Boston from 1951-52. Dr. Arthur served a two-year residency in pediatrics at
the Children's Medical Center, Boston from 1952-54 and a year at The Queen's
Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii from 1954-55. He practiced pediatrics with the
Kailua branch of the Medical Group. In 1957 he was in military service stationed
at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Maryland where he was a resident in psychiatry.
He was there until 1961 when he was transferred to the Naval Hospital in Oakland,
California. In 1965 he was again transferred to the Naval Hospital in San Diego,
California, and was there until the 1970's. In 1979 he was an Administrator
in Los Angeles and by 1982 he was in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Arthur was a member of the Honolulu County Medical Society, the Hawaii
Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. He married Frances
E. Nickolls of Bedford, New Hampshire in Honolulu in December 1954. They had
two children: Jane Sydney and Shelby. Dr. Arthur died on October 28, 1989 in
Florida.
