Dr. Edgar "Dick" Auerswald was born on December 27, 1925. He received his medical degree from The University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin in the year 1951. He served his residency in psychiatry at Rockland State Hospital, New York. He was licensed in New York in 1953. He was a pioneer in the field of family therapy before coming to Hawaii in 1972. He was the head of the Community Mental Health Center in Maui for 12 years. In 1984 he retired from that position and moved to Oahu where he joined Dr. Larry Allman in running the Hawaii Family Therapy Center.
Dr. Auerswald died on October 23, 1997; his last residence was San Francisco.
