MARCELINO JACALME AVECILLA


Marcelino Jacalme Avecilla

Dr. Marcelino J. Avecilla was born in San Juan, La Union, Philippines on December 12, 1912. He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila in 1937. He interned at San Juan De Dios Hospital Manila from 1936-37. Dr. Avecilla entered the military service during World War II. He served a second internship at Harlem Hospital, New York City from 1950-51 and a surgical residency at the same hospital from 1951-56. He was a physician at the Pepeekeo Clinic, Hawaii in 1958 and practiced general surgery in Honolulu beginning in 1961.

Dr. Avecilla was a member of the Honolulu Medical Society, the Hawaii Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. His first wife was Dr. Teodora Fidelino, who died in 1962. His second wife was Dr. Maria L. R. Mabang, a dentist. Dr. Avecilla died on August 31, 1999. He was survived by wife, Aida, and children: Dr. Zenaida Avecilla Sadorra, Dr. Rebecca Avecilla Lucero, Victor Avecilla and Ramon Sevilla.
