Dr. Robert F. Bailey was born in Craigsville, West Virginia, on February 7, 1911. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock in 1940. He interned at The Queen's Hospital, Honolulu. He arrived in Hawaii one month before Pearl Harbor was bombed. He joined Dr. S.C. Culpepper in general practice in 1943. He was called to active duty in the U.S. Navy 1945-46 after which he rejoined Drs. Culpepper and Honl.
Dr. Bailey and Dr. Culpepper were attending physicians at the Oahu Prison for 35 years. Dr. Bailey was a member of the American Medical Association, the Hawaii Medical Association, the Honolulu County Medical Society, the Honolulu Academy of General Practice (president 1953) and the Board of Governors of the Hawaii Medical Library in 1964.
Dr. Bailey married Amelia Ana Kaopua and the couple had five children: Beryl Leolani Blaich, James, Clifton, Bill "Speedy" and John.
Dr. Bailey died on July 19, 1996 in Honolulu.
