E.ROBERT BALLARD


E. Robert Ballard
Dr. Robert Ballard was born in Yakima, Washington on July 11, 1921. He attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington and then went to George Washington University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C., where he received his medical degree in 1948.

He interned at the Clinical Dispensary and Emergency Hospital, Washington, D.C. from 1948-49. He came to Hawaii in 1949 and served a residency at St. Francis Hospital, Honolulu from 1949-50 and at Kauikeolani Children's Hospital in 1951-52. Dr. Ballard then served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He spent five more months in postgraduate training at Kauikeolani Children's Hospital during 1954-55 and then joined Dr. Louis Gaspar in Family Practice in 1955.

Dr. Ballard married Ruth Swenson at Central Union Church, Honolulu on September 23, 1955.

He was a member of the Honolulu County Medical Society, the Hawaii Medical Association and the American Medical Association. In 1969 he was elected Chief of Staff and President of the Executive Board of the St. Francis Hospital, Honolulu.

Dr. Ballard was elected a trustee of the Friends of Foster Garden in 1966.

He died on November 25, 1991.
