WILLIAM HERBERT WYNN


William Herbert Wynn
William Herbert Wynn was born in Campbellton, Florida, on February 13, 1891, the son of William Baker and Dora (Whitaker) Wynn.

He was educated at Jackson County High School, attended the University of Florida from 1909 to 1912 for his pre-medical work, and received his M.D. from Tulane University in 1916. His internship was served at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, from June, 191 6, to February, 1917.

During World War I, Dr. Wynn served as an officer in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy. Remaining in the Navy, the doctor was a flight surgeon from 1922 to 1925. In 1922 he attended the U.S. Army School of Aviation Medicine and was the first naval flig ht surgeon at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor.

On August 7, 1924, Dr. Wynn was married to Miss Alice De Leseo at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Honolulu. The Wynns had three children: William Baker, Miles Pratt, and Jane.

Resigning from the Navy in 1925, Dr. Wynn entered private practice in Honolulu in association with Dr. Charles B. Cooper and Dr. Clarence E. Fronk. In 1938 Dr. Fronk and Dr. Wynn founded the Fronk-Wynn Clinic. Dr. Wynn served on the Medical Advisory Boa rd of Kapiolani Hospital. In 1950, due to ill health, he withdrew from the Clinic and went into private practice by himself, and in 1952 he left the Islands to start a practice in Houma, Louisiana, and specialized in obstetrics.

On February 8, 1961, Dr. Wynn died at Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, at the age of 69.

He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Association, Honolulu Medical Society, Hawaii Medical Association, Phi Delta Theta, Nu Sigma Nu, and of the Honolulu Art Society. His clubs included Pacific, University , Oahu Racing and Polo Association, Outrigger Canoe and Rotary.
